Product Description

This challenging drive enclosure for two.5" SATA-interface drives makes your files ultra-transportable: fits in your pocket and can be accessed by any computer's USB ports. The included cable has two USB plugs (Type A, the frequent kind) for connecting to the laptop, and one particular mini-USB plug for the challenging drive. (It makes use of two plugs for input/output energy from the Pc.) The indicator light shows you when the drive is becoming accessed. Fantastic drive answer for students, enterprise men and women, and those on the go! To identify if your challenging drive is an IDE drive or a SATA drive, please look for the connectors. An IDE connector is longer, and has two rows of pins that stick out. A SATA connector is smaller and has two plastic tabs with flat metal contacts.

Customer Testimonials

It doesn't get any less difficult than this. I paired the enclosure with a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB Bulk/OEM Tricky Drive 2.five Inch, 8 MB Cache, 5400 RPM SATA II WD5000BEVT. The drive slid into the case and was recognized by Windows XP when plugged into a USB port. The package comes with some screws and a throw away screw driver. I did not see any reason to attempt and use the screws to extra firmly repair the drive in the case.
I've got yet another 2.5" USB 2. SATA Hard Drive HDD Case Enclosure - Silver that calls for screws to assemble. That case demands disassembly to swap out difficult drives. This case with the clamshell style makes it possible for less complicated drive swaps.
The double pigtail doesn't bother me. The enclosure operates fine even if only plugged into a single USB port, supplied the most important plug and not the extended plug is utilised. I've hooked two auxiliary drives into my laptop working with these enclosures, each on single USB port, a very hassle-free setup for backups.
Given the low value, I wasn't expecting much. Admittedly, the constuction is minimalist, perhaps even cheap. But the enclosure has worked properly with all of my spare drives, Hitachi, Seagate, and Western Digital. The enclosure has also been simple plug and play with Windows XP and 7. The only drawback to this enclosure is the 500gig limit. Who would have believed tricky drives more than 500gig are becoming the norm?
addendum: I have decreased my item rating from 5 to three stars for the following cause.
I purchased additional enclosures on Nov 11, and DID NOT obtain the enclosure pictured. HDE was the vendor. The vendors seem to rotate for this item. I purchased my original enclosures from Eforcity. The new enclosure lacks the convenient push button to open. The new enclosure is kept closed by a plastic band. I was frustrated by the lack of directions about how to disassemble the new instances for installation of the difficult drive. Luckily, I spent time in the USN and can open anything given a huge adequate hammer. I'll post some photographs of the present enclosure in the next couple days.
addendum two: I've posted an image comparing the old and new instances. I choose the old case which is nevertheless obtainable from other vendors, for instance: two.5" SATA External Tricky Drive Enclosure Case - 500FB Max Capacity. Eforcity is nevertheless periodically listed as the vendor for this product, and I assume they are nevertheless offering the pictured enclosure. The new enclosure closes even more securely than the old, perhaps that's a plus for some. I preferred the easier to open old enclosures considering that I like to swap out my tricky drives regularly.
addendum 3: HDE read my addendums and provided either to replace the difficult drive enclosures or a complete refund. Due to the fact I am employing the enclosures they sent, I declined their provide, but give them credit for offering to do the correct issue for buyer satisfaction.

The first one I got didn't seem to perform and only did for about 3 days. Immediately after leaving negative feedback the seller contacted me about replacing the item. Though they did, not only did the approach take a long time but it was also challenging having a hold of the seller. Soon after waiting about two weeks for the replacement item to arrive when I lastly got the new item and it was also defective! Needless to say next time ill invest a small a lot more cash and decide to buy a better excellent product!
