Client Reviews

The image looks exactly like one other product that is extra high priced. So I bought this as an alternative to save a couple of bucks (and I can not use the eSATA interface the other item presents on my dwelling computer). The drive spun up, the lights came on, and no one was house, with my brand new Seagate drive not being recognizable to my Windows 7 method. In Customer Assistance, the lights are on and no one is residence at Diablotek, as effectively. The documentation is almost nonexistent, delivering little beyond how to plug it in. So I decided to return it to Amazon.
But, with a little curiosity and a single single brain cell nonetheless connected to an ancient Windows experience from a decade ago, I told Disk Management in Windows 7 that yes, I seriously do want to use this disk drive that we all agree is correct there, and from that point things magically started out working.
Here's the actions I needed to make this function in Windows 7 (conceptually identical in this regard to other MS Operating systems of the last ten years): Start off Menu, correct click on Pc, left click on Manage, perfect click on the drive that my pc could come across but did not want to use yet (get this suitable, and do not pick the wrong a single, OK?). Then I could either activate the partition or format the drive. This is not precisely user friendly.
So how, you ask, can I suggest this product. The answer is that it is an highly inexpensive answer to a very big dilemma: How do I keep huge, off-internet site, low price disk backups in a format that can be mounted on any personal computer, anytime? This is a fantastic resolution, in that it outcomes in a regular SATA drive at less than $75/TB which I could preserve in a desk drawer at operate, and which, if installed in any other windows Computer, immediately would give access to my data.
The USB interface is slow, taking practically 20 hours to copy 500GB. But immediately after the initial copy, the backup computer software I use (Folderclone) takes less than 10 minutes to figure out which of my millions of files and E mail messages need to be copied or deleted in order to have an precise replica (some are photographs I took yesterday, some date back to when we booted computer systems by rubbing floppy disks with magnets). A each day backup generally takes less than 30 minutes.

I ordered this even though it only says Computer in the description, but figured I'd try my luck. Plugged it into my Mac and it worked correct away. Someone else complained about a brief USB. I did not even attempt the one particular that came with it and instead used a long one I already had, and that worked fine too. Amazing price tag for a Dock that can operate on a Computer or Mac!
