When you invest in a thing like a difficult drive enclosure from a second-tier manufacturer for such a low value, there are certain expectations: shoddy workmanship, poorly translated manual, baffling packaging, poor style, etc. I'll confess I had these expectations, but I did not count on it to matter -- I wanted this enclosure for 1-time use, to clone my Macbook's existing drive onto a new (larger capacity) drive just before installing it.
However, the enclosure I received could not be far more numerous than what I expected. It came beautifully packaged in a box with a nice little manual (with photos and clear English), a carrying pouch, USB cable, installation screws, and even a screwdriver! As other testimonials have talked about, the included cable is a y-cable to enable a high-speed drive to draw energy from 2 USB ports if essential. This is the type of thoughtful packaging you count on from high-finish customer electronics, not a affordable 1-time-use drive enclosure. The enclosure itself is strong aluminum and just barely bigger than the 2.5" drives it really is designed for. It has a sleek, uncomplicated style and flawless construction -- there is no flex to it at all and not a single rough edge.
Right after (easily) installing the drive within the enclosure, there's still no really feel of flexing, and shaking the apparatus gently produces no noise or sense of movement. All appears exceptionally snug and secure (there is a padded foam cushion inside 1 end of the enclosure to aid with this).
When I turned it on, the drive loaded up flawlessly. There was a smaller vibration noise, but significantly much less than you would anticipate from (for instance) a tricky drive fan in a Computer case. Initial let me clarify why I necessary this item. This model is effortless..quite basic. It has a single green energy/activity LED and one particular mini USB jack. The exterior style is exceptionally great and the enclosure itself is made of aluminum so it assists cool the hard drive inside. The enclosure comes with a USB Y cable that has two fullsize USB jacks but for my use I only needed to plug in one particular. If you're using a power hungry highspeed HDD then you may well need to use two USB ports to energy it. Assembly was equally uncomplicated with only two screws. A little screwdriver is also included.
One point to note is that my HDD slightly rattled inside the enclosure. It wasn't a deal breaker but I did not like the rattle so I came up with a effortless repair by sticking four rather thin double sided pieces of foam tape on the 4 corners of the HD inside of the enclosure. This cured the rattle. The tape I used was about 1 - 1.5mm thick and I only peeled off a single side of the tape in order to stick it onto the HD. I left the other side covered so it would not stick to the inside of the HD enclosure.
Following assembly I plugged it into my pc and started out transferring about 75GBs of data with no any troubles. The HD stayed particularly cool and the transfer was very fast. All in all I'm exceptionally pleased with this item and would extremely advise it to any individual searching for one thing that is straight forward, low cost, stylish, of beneficial top quality and performance.
